Are you ready for business?

I suppose most of us in business will say when asked ‘I just couldn’t work for anyone else any more’.  But that first step can feel so difficult.  I’m looking at selling one of my cafes to one of my employees at the moment.  He is ready to go into business for himself, but every time i speak with him, it seems that he’s drowning in ‘what ifs’.  I remember being in this same place.  The first time your mind actually encounters the ‘what ifs’.  The truth as I explained it to him is – when you’re in business for yourself the ‘what ifs’ are something that will always be with you.  There’s no point in drowning in the ‘what ifs’ after all rational consideration, duty of care and weighing of risks.  All that’s left is to take that step into the unknown, and know within you, that you have the capacity to learn fast enough to swim and not drown.

This is my first post, and I suppose I have a few ‘what ifs’ about starting a blog, but I love sharing my experiences, and as with most in business unless your surrounded by like-minded individuals running their own businesses and encountering their own obstacles, nobody wants to hear business talk.  Certainly not talk about employees and your problems with them.

I’ve decided to share this blog so that I can share the things I encounter daily at my cafes and what I’ve found best to resolve the never ending obstacles.  I would encourage feedback and others to add to my ideas, and with perhaps the growth of this little online community others can learn from our experiences.

I’m Pete.
